[NOTE: DON'T SEND HATE TO ANY MOD, PERSON, OR GROUP IN THIS THREAD]
ninjamuffin has stated on the GitHub that you must post source code:
But, a surprising amount delay or just never post the source code. It defeats the purpose of ninjamuffin open sourcing the game in the first place.
This game has created a amazing way for people to get into gamedev and programming, All the resources can be easily learned from a stunning community. One of the big components for beginners is by looking at other's code.
Source code gives a great benefit as anyone could use your code or look into it. This is just what you signed up for when you started modifying this game's code. People who try to lock their code, shouldn't have been modifying the code anyway. Most of these people end up uploading the mod on GameJolt instead of the standard GameBanna because GameBanna enforces the creator's wishes (slowly stopping but still a little bit).
FNF Indie Cross is a big example of the source code delaying.
The full version came out on GameJolt on April 9th (about 4 months ago). When that happened the source wasn't released and kept locked. This lead the programming community without the source of one of the biggest mods to ever come out in the FNF Community.
BrightFyre's reason for this was a copyrighted video player in the code that would get them sued.
Any coder knows this could have been easily removed and replaced with other video players at the time (even BrightFyre's own video player). But, they decided to delay it about 4 months.
The source code finally came out 8 days ago and balance was restored. https://github.com/brightfyregit/Indie-Cross-Public, so please don't send hate to BrightFyre.
Please any coders reading this release your source no matter how big or small you mod is.
Anyway, what yall think about mods not posting source code, and is it effecting new programmers?
