Usually I start out with something simple, nothing too crazy, then work up from there. If I make a simple melody or bass line, I'm make the corresponding part for it. And... other times I just produce a sick beat within a few hours XD. I recommend doing the producer equivalent of "Free writing" and just play. Play what ever is in your mind.

Generally I take a lot of inspiration from the stuff I listen to. Nothing other than melodies can be copyrighted, so I often will borrow elements from other songs if I'm feeling uninspired. Usually by the end you can't even tell
