we are here today to celebrate the greatest patterns in 4k rhythm gaming ever. in this post i will show off and describe some of my favorite patterns to use in charts. feel free to post your own favorite patterns, too!
GRACE NOTES
these are some SEXY ass notes. anytime these get used in songs they feel great to hit, and they're also a good mix-up in charts. they're not exactly doubles since one of the notes have a slight delay (usually its a 32nd note) which is what makes them unique and fun to hit.
STREAMS
streams are CLASSICS. you can't have a smooth chart without these (unless the song just doesn't have a section like this but STILL you get what im saying)
these are always satisfying to hit, and when charted correctly these can feel fuckin GODLY to play. adding an extra note or two in 1/2 or 1/4 intervals to make them into jumpstreams or handstreams (shoutout btw, also goated patterns) can also feel great too, they add nice variation and give the stream a nice kick to it imo.
running men
i don't see these that often and its unfortunate cause running men patterns are a lot of fun!! it's conceptually very simple and doing a variation of this pattern skipping over one of these notes in the pattern is also a nice mix up and makes these a lot of fun! not to mention, swapping between the left and right sides with this pattern is a simple way to give these nice variation and it also makes for a great pattern to throw into your charts!
triplets
i would go as far to say that triplets are your bread and butter when charting. this shit is so simple but its so awesome. if you wanna spice these up its really easy, too. literally just making each 1/4 note a double takes this simple pattern to a whole new level.
mini-jacks
okay, okay. i know a LOT of you probably have PTSD from this pattern but hear me out for a second: when used sparingly? this is a fantastic pattern to throw into something like a stream or some triplets. the trick is to use them in BURSTS, like the notes themselves. don't just throw them in back to back- have them distanced a bit aways from each other. THAT'S what makes a good mini-jack in charts. and when you play that chart, and hit a good mini-jack, it's hard to say it doesn't feel like walking on sunshine.
if you're a composer, this is also important to know!! keep in mind that certain patterns of vocals can constitute for all kinds of different patterns in the chart as well, so keep that in mind when you make songs! best way to do it is just to imagine yourself playing the chart itself (even if you're bad at rhythm games lol) and make sure that your vocals sound fun to play. also be sure to contact your charters for mods you work on to get approval from them on the patterns!
anyways thats all i have to say. lemme know what your favorite patterns are to use in charts!!
I don't see the doubles on here. 🙁
